Sub Funded Getaway to France

This journey, made possible by a generous sub, promised to be more than just a vacation; it was an opportunity to immerse myself in the culture, history, and beauty of a land renowned for its refinement.

I have always dreamed of visiting Paris, indulging in rich wines, savouring exquisite cheeses, and soaking in the authentic Parisian atmosphere. The city had always captivated my imagination, and this trip allowed me to experience it in all its glory.

The city revealed its treasures as I wandered through iconic landmarks—the Arc de Triomphe, the Palais Garnier, the Cathédrale Notre-Dame, the Pantheon, the Palais Galliera, Place de la Concorde, and, of course, the majestic Eiffel Tower and the world-renowned Musée du Louvre. I strolled across timeless bridges like the Pont-Neuf and Pont des Arts, each offering stunning views of the Seine. I found peace in the lush, vibrant gardens—Jardin des Tuileries, Jardin des Plantes, and Luxembourg Gardens— and spent some time exploring neighbourhoods like Le Marais, where walking and shopping were just as much satisfying.

I was even fortunate enough to stumble upon a charming gluten-free bakery where I could finally try a variety of French croissants, each delicate and delicious, capturing the essence of Parisian pastry-making.

In the evening, I discovered the most enchanting restaurant I’ve ever seen, covered in beautiful flowers, filled with live music and lovely service. I tried their individual champagne and gin cocktails, accompanied by a tender, perfectly cooked steak.

The generosity of this holiday, afforded by a single devoted sub, meant that I could take my time, savoring each moment without concern for the cost, and truly immerse myself in the experience, something that made the journey even more enriching.

After a few days, I flew to Marseille, where I was welcomed by the scenic beauty of the Vieux Port. From my hotel, I was treated to stunning views of the harbour.
My first adventure took me to the Archipel du Frioul, where I spent an afternoon wandering along the rugged coastline, marvelling at the breathtaking calanques that lined the shore.

Back in the city, I dined at an authentic French seafood restaurant by the harbour, savouring a medley of fresh fish dishes, paired with a glass of Kir Royal and a creamy crème brûlée.

I explored the magnificent streets of Le Panier district, where history came alive at every turn. I marveled at landmarks like the Porte d'Aix, Cathédrale La Major, Notre-Dame de la Garde, and the Palais Longchamp. Marseille, with its unique blend of history and coastal charm, offered a distinct flavor of France, a contrast to the elegance of Paris yet equally captivating.

Throughout my journey, I met several wonderful people - locals and fellow travellers alike - engaging in conversations that deepened my appreciation for the warmth and hospitality that a different country offers. In France, the people were open-minded and kind, offering not a single judgmental glance. Instead, they were eager to help, allowing me to do my work freely, just as I had experienced while traveling abroad.

Their kindness and openness left a lasting impression, and in the end, this journey reaffirmed my decision to finally make the dream reality -  to seek a new life and move beyond my home country.
